"Steve Campbell is a master Drummer and one of my best students " - Go Go Ray -
"Steve has been a key factor in our success having taught our drummer from not knowing how to play drums at all to playing shows within weeks. He excels in his ability to break down complex ideas into simplicity. It is rare to find some one who is talented and proficient in both music and teaching such as Steve. He also has vast experience in live/recording production, touring and management which allows him to not only teach his students the craft but prepare them for the business as well. I highly recommend Steve and would trust him with what ever job needs to be done wether it’s behind the kit, teaching or any of the countless other skills he has honed in the music industry. " - Andrew Z (Billboard charting professional recording and performing artist).
" hippy can play" - Kid Ray Sol
" A cross between Randy Castillo and Chad Smith" - Phil Dubnick
In 2014 I met Steve Campbell. He answered my ad about looking for bandmates for my “conscious rock” band. After playing music with Steve a couple times in my home studio, just seeing how it felt between us, I quickly had this sense that this was a person I was going to be making music with for a long time.
I have a bond and a chemistry with Steve that transcends all of our lifestyle differences, all of our conflicts, and all of our limitations as a band and as musicians. I consider Steve to be one of the few people in my life I can trust. I can trust him because he is always brutally honest with me and this means he can stay present with me. (In one minute he’s so pissed he wants to kill me, but I know in the next minute he’d protect me with his own life if I was threatened.) I treasure this and it is why we are still together after 9 years of being bandmates. We’ve seen a lot of people come and go from our band, Nagdeo. And Steve and I remain (and we have a very solid bass player now, Ken Watson, who has melded into the bond Steve and I have.) We’ve produced 2 Nagdeo albums together and have a third that is about halfway done at this time.
I consider Steve to be a proficient drummer. There’s tons of proficient drummers. But I consider Steve to be an extraordinary composer on the drums. I can hardly tell you how perfect the drum parts he composes for Nagdeo songs are to my ears, heart, and soul. How he can take my acoustic guitar parts and vocals and hear all this dynamic change, space for fills, transitions between chord progressions, just the right touch and groove, and just the right hooks to turn the song into something very special is beyond me.
A couple years ago I told Steve, you make it way more likely that people will hear my lyrics and I make it way more likely people will hear your drumming. Steve is my bandmate, period. We create a synergy together that is one of the most precious “things” in my life.
You can borrow him, but you can’t have him all to yourself, because I will never let Steve go:-)
I’m sad that Nagdeo isn’t manifested enough as a band that we can’t keep Steve busy enough that he doesn’t need other projects and work, but I know he values me and what we co-create as Nagdeo enough to stay loyal to us while still sharing his gifts with others.
Thanks for being in my life Steve. I honor and appreciate you profoundly."

If we had this guy in the band 10 years ago in California he would already have his Lamborghini and have wrecked it by now! - Trey Wonder
